It’s that time of year! The weather changes every five minutes, leaves are falling off the trees, there’s football on TV, and pumpkin spice everything is being advertised. I interviewed a friend of mine, Ashley Dupert, who owns an interior design company called Omorfia Designs. She does great work and I wanted to find out a tips to make a house ready for the fall season! Whether you’re a single bachelor or on pinterest daily I think there’s something for everyone to takeaway from the time I spent with her.
1. Start with your front porch or entry way (or both!) One of the best things about the arrival of fall is the nod towards the holidays. We start to think about getting our homes ready for all of those special holiday guest. Welcome your friends and family with all of the signs of fall from pumpkins to potted mums, your guest will feel right at home as soon as they arrive.
2. Nothing says “I love my space” more than the subtle changes that you can make throughout the places you frequent most in your home. From the kitchen counter to the bathroom sink. There are small yet impactful changes you can make to welcome the Fall season in style. Simple is key so try a wooden bowl of seasonal fruit on your kitchen table or a fall scented candle and inexpensive hand towel in the guest bathroom. You will soon be ushered into the fall season with these understated yet impactful choices.
3. Fall is one of the only seasons that anything rustic goes. So take the Magnolia Batton and run with it! Go Farmhouse girl or go home!! You can not go wrong while decorating your home for fall with anything that looks or feels 100 years old! From metal chicken wire baskets or an old re-purposed milk crate, this is your chance to bring the farm home. Scatter these pieces around and you will be on your way to “fall down on the farm.
4. Make your fall decor pop this season by adding gold, brass and copper accents. You will instantly be transported to the essence of fall by adding these warm and inviting metal accents into your design plans. If you are on a budget check out your local thrift store. Yes, I said that! What was old is now new…..and you can score some amazing finds this way. Look for a set of brass candlesticks. Add a wooden tray and a few of those adorable white baby boo pumpkins and you are instantly a hit for all of your dinner parties from here on out!
5. Finally, make it cozy and fun! Let's face it, if fall didn't have pumpkin spiced everything and super cute blanket scarves involved we would probably just skip right to Christmas. Fall exist for those of us that need to ease into winter with style and grace. If its not warm and inviting it's not really worth doing. Even more so, if your decor is not a reflection of who you are and how fall makes you feel, then it’s really not worth your time. Any time you decorate it needs to tell a story. A story about you and and what you love. So, here is your green light to get out there and let a little more of you shine through this holiday season!
